As leaders, we have an opportunity to help improve the lives of those surrounding us. Whether we are business leaders, community leaders, athletic directors, or coaches, we can and do impact those on our “team.” Whether you are intentional or not, you are making an impact.
As my good friend Mark Adams often says, “There are energy givers and energy suckers.” As leaders, we have a choice – rather, we have a responsibility to help build up those around us; to see their potential even when they might not see it themselves. A real leader inspires those around them to be more than they dared to conceive. Sure, hold them accountable for their commitments, but emphasize the positive and the possibility.
The famous poet Goethe once wrote: “When we take people merely as they are, they will remain as they are. When we treat people as if they were what they could be, we help them become what they are capable of becoming.”
You can do this. You were made for this!!
Challenge – Take 60 seconds right now and choose one team member who isn’t living up to their possibilities. Choose the first person that comes to your mind and send them a quick text (or pull them aside) and let them know that you value them, you see great things in them, you see their potential.
Keep Having Fun,
